Meath prove too strong for Waterford

Ailbhe Leahy and Marion Farrelly’s early goals propelled Meath to overcome Waterford’s spirited effort securing their third consecutive victory in the Division 1 of the National Football League.

Emma Duggan, a two-time All-Star, contributed impressively with six points for Meath. Despite Mairéad O’Brien’s two goals for Waterford, they faced their third consecutive loss in the premier division.

Meath opened the scoring when Leahy found the net barely 30 seconds into the game. Waterford responded immediately as O’Brien cleverly redirected a pass into the net.

O’Brien scored her second in the ninth minute, marking her third goal in just two matches.

However, Meath quickly regained the lead with Farrelly’s goal after two minutes.

The remainder of the half saw fewer goals but consistent scoring from Duggan, with the half ending 2-06 to 2-03 for the visitors.

Duggan extended Meath’s lead shortly after halftime, and Waterford’s substitute Clare Walsh responded with a point.

Efforts from Shelly Melia and Duggan kept Meath ahead towards the end of the game and they ran out 5 points winners.
