Galway Hammer Westmeath in Salthill

In a dominant display, Galway secured a comprehensive victory over Westmeath with a scoreline of 4-31 to 0-12 in the Allianz League Division 1B match at Pearse Stadium.

The game showcased Galway’s superior attacking prowess, with twelve players scoring, and highlighted the exceptional performance of Westmeath’s goalkeeper, Noel Conaty, who made six crucial saves.

Despite facing the wind, Galway led 0-15 to 0-06 by halftime, with Evan Niland contributing six points.

Westmeath’s efforts, bolstered by Conaty’s goalkeeping, especially his four first-half saves and a penalty stop from Jason Flynn, kept them in the game initially. However, Galway’s relentless attack broke through in the second half, scoring four goals.

The match, attended by less than 1,000 spectators, saw Galway pulling away decisively after the break, even as both teams rotated their squads. Notably, Galway’s All-Star Conor Whelan made his first appearance of the year during this phase, underscoring Galway’s depth and quality as they eased to victory.
