Mackin fires Armagh into their first league final

Armagh secured their first appearance in the Lidl National League Division 1 final by narrowly defeating Mayo with a 2-9 to 2-8 scoreline at James Stephens Park in Ballina.

The victory was clinched by a late free from Aimee Mackin, marking a fortunate win for the league leaders against a resurgent Mayo team that missed several second-half opportunities.

Despite a strong start that saw Armagh leading by nine points at halftime, Mayo mounted a significant comeback in the second half.

However, Armagh managed to hold off this revival, with Mackin’s crucial late free ensuring their victory.

Throughout the match, Armagh capitalized on their defensive strengths and quick counter-attacks, while Mayo struggled to break through Armagh’s defense and was left to rue missed chances, especially in the latter stages of the game.

The win was particularly notable as it came against the backdrop of Lauren McConville’s 100th appearance for Armagh, with key performances from players like Aoife McCoy and Niamh Coleman contributing to their success.
