Kieran McGeeney – a man of many talents

Kieran McGeeney has just guided Armagh to an All Ireland final – their first in 21 years. Armagh’s last appearance in a final was in 2003 and their captain that day was none other than Kieran McGeeney himself.

What many people may not know about him is that Gaelic football is just one the fields he is an expert in. McGeeney is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

McGeeney was awarded the honour by Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh training out of SBG gym in Dublin. The belt is extremely hard to earn and in McGeeney’s case it took over a decade of hard training to earn the accolade.

McGeeney also trained together with Conor McGregor for years and in an interview Conor described McGeeney as an “animal.” John Kavanagh, who is probably the most renowned MMA/BJJ coach in the country, also described McGeeney as “probably one of the most intense human beings I’ve ever met.”
