Clare earn hard fought victory over Waterford

In a tightly contested match, Clare secured a hard-fought victory against Waterford at Walsh Park in the Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League. Despite a spirited effort from Waterford, Clare managed to edge out a win by the narrowest of margins.

The game saw both teams evenly matched in the first half, with Waterford showing strong performance initially but still maintaining a level score at halftime. Sean Walsh’s goal for Clare, controversially allowed despite apparent steps in the build-up, provided the crucial difference early in the game.

Waterford’s star forward Stephen Bennett, who had a promising first half with four pointed frees, was unfortunately forced off due to injury in the second half. Aidan McCarthy stepped up for Clare, contributing eight points to secure the win.

Both teams displayed strong attacking prowess throughout the game, with Waterford’s direct running causing trouble for Clare’s defense, and Ian Galvin’s individual efforts keeping Clare in contention.

Clare gradually gained momentum in the second half, taking the lead and frustrating Waterford’s attempts to regain control. Despite a late surge from Waterford, including a late point by substitute Shane Bennett, McCarthy’s final point secured the win for Clare.

Overall, it was an impressive performance from Clare, providing coach Brian Lohan with positives to build on. Waterford will look to bounce back in their next match against Cork, while Clare will face Wexford in their upcoming fixture.
